 Happy International Nurses Day – May, 12. – 2024

Nurses are the backbone of health systems around the world, and this International Nurses Day we celebrate their dedication, compassion and tireless efforts to promote health and well-being.  EFNNMA is fully committed to ensuring that the critical role nurses play in delivering quality care and improving patient outcomes is recognised and valued in the World Health Organization (WHO) European Region, as it is in many other regions of the world,

However, nurses face many challenges that hinder their ability to provide the best possible care. One of the most pressing issues is the nursing shortage, which has become a global crisis. The shortage of nurses puts a strain on healthcare systems and leads to increased workload, burnout and job dissatisfaction among nurses. This can have a negative impact on patient care and outcomes.

To address the nursing shortage and strengthen health systems, it is essential to invest in nursing education and promote leadership development. By providing nurses with opportunities to develop their skills, knowledge and leadership, we can empower them to take a more prominent role in healthcare delivery and policy-making.

The European Forum of National Nursing and Midwifery Associations (EFNNMA) is committed to supporting nurses in all aspects of their vital role. Through advocacy, collaboration and knowledge sharing, EFNNMA aims to create a supportive environment that enables nurses to thrive and excel in their profession.

By working together, we can build a healthier future for Europe and beyond. This includes not only addressing the nursing shortage, but also promoting the well-being of nurses, improving their working conditions and recognising their invaluable contribution to society. As we celebrate International Nurses Day, let us renew our commitment to supporting nurses and ensuring that they have the resources, training and leadership opportunities they need to continue providing exceptional care to patients.

Happy International Day of Midwife – May, 5 – 2024

Today, we celebrate the International Day of the Midwife, a day dedicated to recognizing the invaluable contributions of midwives worldwide. Midwives play a crucial role in providing essential healthcare services to women and their families during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

Midwives are the backbone of maternal and newborn health. They offer compassionate care, support, and guidance to women throughout their reproductive journey. Their expertise and skills ensure that mothers and babies receive the highest quality of care, leading to better health outcomes and reduced maternal and infant mortality rates.

On this special day, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the midwives who work tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of women and their families. Your dedication, compassion, and commitment to providing excellent care are truly commendable.

We also want to raise awareness about the importance of investing in midwifery education, training, and resources. By supporting midwives and strengthening the midwifery workforce, we can improve access to quality maternal and newborn health services, particularly in underserved communities.

Join us in celebrating the International Day of the Midwife and honoring these unsung heroes. Let us continue to advocate for the recognition and support of midwives worldwide, ensuring that every woman has access to the care she needs during this transformative period of her life.

To all the midwives out there, thank you for your unwavering commitment to promoting the health and well-being of mothers and babies. Your work is truly invaluable, and we are forever grateful for your service.

Happy International Day of the Midwife
